Yr 5 & 6 Shackleton Project – Art and Maths!

The inspiration for our project was the motif from the front of the book ‘Shackleton’s Journey’ by William Grill. We used scale enlargement to each enlarge a piece of the drawing by a scale factor of 4. We worked as a team to make sure our piece matched up to its neighbour as well as possible. The finished pieces were re-assembled in our classroom. We are very pleased with the result!

We built on the concept of scale enlargement in our Maths lessons. We investigated enlarging our own rectangle and chose our scale factor. We looked at the relationship between the perimeter and area of the ‘object’ and ‘image’.

Have a look at some of our wonderful Shackleton artwork on the Galleries page.
