Pre-School

Welcome to St Loys Pre-School

Our Pre-School offers excellent care from an Early Years Team dedicated to providing a safe and happy start to your child’s education. We believe in fostering a lifelong love of learning in our children and present opportunities for this through first-hand experiences, viewed as the best way for our little ones to make sense of the world around them. This also mirrors our whole school ethos and supports our children as they make the transition to Foundation Stage in Hedgehogs Class.

Who we are

We are a small and thriving Pre-school nestling in the heart of rural Northamptonshire in the village of Weedon Lois. Situated within the beautiful grounds of St Loys CEVA Primary Academy, we benefit from close links to the whole school community. Our idyllic setting is enriched with a variety of outdoor spaces for active and physical learning, including playgrounds, wooded area and a well-resourced field.

2023 - Our New Home

From September 2023, our Pre-school Mouselings have joined us in the main school building and are thriving in their new home.

Our Aim

Our aim at St Loys Pre-school, is to provide a rich, play-based early learning experience for our children. One that nurtures creativity, individuality and exploration; that thrives upon social endeavour, alongside and in collaboration with others and honours children’s intrinsic thirst for learning. With the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum operating as our framework, we facilitate these learning experiences in response to children’s interests, observations of play and planned activities.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy embraces a child-centred approach to learning through play, with children seen as active participants. We believe that children learn best through first-hand experiences as a way to make sense of the world around them and showcase their knowledge and skills. Our practitioners nurture children’s learning within a richly resourced environment, through positive relationships, as facilitators and collaborators honouring these interactions as pivotal for children’s growth and development.

“Play is the highest form of research” – Albert Einstein

Our Learning and Development

All our learning at St Loys Pre-school is underpinned by the four themes of the EYFS framework where we view each child as Unique, we build Positive Relationships and Enabling Environments to support and optimise Learning and Development.

Our Pre-school children enjoy lots of opportunities for free flow play, both inside and outside in our secure outdoor garden where our qualified early years practitioners work alongside to facilitate and scaffold learning. Our planning cycle evolves over the course of each week in response to a number of elements; from children’s identified and ongoing interests, notably, what resources they are choosing and how they are accessing the learning environment as well as adult-initiated opportunities to extend and challenge.

Nurture… Inspire… Achieve…

At St Loys, our practitioners are focused on teaching, supporting and challenging every child, expertly guiding them through activities and experiences that establish a lifelong desire for learning and development. The opportunities we give our children embrace the seven areas of learning and are realised through a multitude of Educational Programmes…

  • Outdoor Adventure – Fostering a curiosity for nature and the world…
  • Role-play – Enhancing social skills and imagination…
  • Yoga – Nurturing strong bodies and healthy minds…
  • Early Literacy – Developing a lifelong love of reading…
  • Early Maths – Furthering a strong grounding in numbers…
  • Expressive Art – Firing imaginations and developing creativity…
