Learning in Hedgehog Class

In our class we enjoy lots of practical learning and exploration through play and interaction with a dynamic learning environment. Teaching and learning for Foundation Stage pupils follow EYFS framework 2021 and for Years 1 and 2, the National Curriculum. We balance our curricula expectations with a careful consideration and knowledge of how children learn best, maximising opportunities for teacher-led and focussed activity as well as child-initiated learning. As a small school we pride ourselves on having many opportunities to share learning with our other class and staff. This affords us whole school learning experiences and activities. We are fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful countryside and take every available opportunity for nature walks and outdoor learning.

Curriculum Mapping

We continue to utilise planning from Warriner MAT, engaging with a knowledge-rich curriculum driven by a strong set of values about what matters and intend to build upon this with a return to more creative ways of  delivery. Our curriculum has drive and ambition, is informed by research and deliberately designed to enable all of our children to have equal access to knowledge, to value the pursuit of that knowledge and to be able to use that knowledge for good.

Our Curriculum will continue to offer all our pupils a rich and varied diet of learning in all subject areas and aims to ignite curiosity and be dynamic in nature and delivery. We continue our ‘Rainforest’ inspired topic over the Spring Term in Hedgehogs Class. ‘Cycle B’ plan and an overview of the year ahead in our class can be viewed here.
